Harold Sutherland Construction Ltd. - Changes to the site plan for a pit or quarry

Harold Sutherland Construction Ltd. has applied to amend the current site plan to change the final rehabilitation from agricultural use to wetland.  The site plan restricts extraction to above the water table and surface water is currently directed outside of the quarry area. The proposed change would allow surface water to accumulate and create the proposed wetland feature as part of site rehabilitation.

Harold Sutherland Construction Ltd. operates this licensed site under the authority of Licence No. 610881 under the Aggregate Resources Act (ARA).  The site is 7.1 hectares and licensed as a quarry with an annual tonnage condition of 100,000 tonnes.

Harold Sutherland Construction Ltd. also operates the adjacent site under the authority of Licence No. 4864 under the ARA.  The site is 22.76 hectares and licensed as a quarry with an annual tonnage condition of 175,000 tonnes. 

These licensed sites, known as the Bayview Quarry (Meaford), are operationally linked and rehabilitation of both sites is planned to be undertaken in a coordinated manner.

Public consultation opportunities

The proposal request for this licence is being circulated within the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry. Additionally, notification of this application has been forwarded to the Municipality of Meaford, Grey County, Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and landowners within 120 metres of the licensed site, for comment.
